New Climbers

/

Never climbed before? No problem.

Climbing at UVA is a fantastic community filled with opportunities to grow and friends to meet! There is nothing we love more than introducing a new climber to the sport and cheering them on as they top their first climb. In fact, nearly 50% of our members started climbing in the last year! To help support newer climbers in our club, we have trips and courses specifically for introductory climbing and learning. More information can be found below!

Introductory Outdoor Bouldering

At the beginning of each semester we lead an introductory outdoor bouldering day to the Forest climbing area on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This workshop is designed to teach new climbers about the safety and etiquette of outdoor bouldering and more importantly to get on some awesome climbs and real rock!

Learn To Lead Climb

Each semester we teach a class on how to lead climb, at Manchester Wall in Richmond.  Lead climbing opens a door into a vastness of outdoor sport climbing and indoor competition climbing, perfect for intermediate climbers to take a step up and try something new. If this is something you are interested in, apply to our lead class!
